Life Insurance Mistakes Can be Costly

December 24th, 2013

Back in June, the story of Bob Lavigne’s struggle to have the insurance company honour his fiancée's life insurance policy was first posted. Bob’s fiancée, Consuelo Hermogino, was diagnosed with lung cancer seven months after being reunited with her children, who had come from Taiwan to live with her and Bob, their soon-to-be stepfather. An immigrant from the Philippines, she had met Bob at church and they fell in love. She passed away before being able to marry the love of her life, leaving the family to grieve and struggle.

Beneficial Changes To Plans Help With Insurance Challenges

December 20th, 2013

Life insurance plans have changed over the last 20 years, but most people would agree that it was a change that was needed. Two decades ago, a person of advanced age or with a pre-existing medical condition had very little opportunity to get life insurance at a reasonable rate. These days, with the promotion of no-medical life insurance such as simplified- or guaranteed-issue plans, there are more options than ever for people who have health concerns. Basically, the bottom line is that life insurance no longer has to be unaffordable. Age, health, or a small budget can no longer be considered a limitation.

Top 7 Insurance Commercials: #7 Life Can Surprise You

December 20th, 2013

This week, we're starting a new series of articles in which we'll take a closer look at the best insurance commercials from around the world. We'd like to continue the course set by our Top 10 Insurance Jokes and bring a lighter note to this serious issue.

Number 7 on our list is the advertising campaign for the Indian AEGON Religare Life Insurance Company Limited. The campaign launched on July 16, 2010. It was created by the Indian branch of the international ad agency Ogilvy & Mather. The three videos shot by Nirvana Films in Bangalore are hilarious in our opinion and work perfectly specifically in India, which is what the advertiser needed most.

Why Insurance Brokers Are Selling Disability Insurance

December 18th, 2013

“There is no time like the present.” Over the years, this quaint idiom has meant many things to many people, but perhaps it's the life insurance broker who has truly exemplified its meaning.

A career trying to sell people on an idea that they're too scared or sometimes too naïve to face can be a tough living. Ideally, disability insurance is a “get it while you're young” type of sale. Unfortunately, the very necessity of a disability insurance plan is often lost on the young because they're unable to imagine a life — their own life — meeting with any type of disability. However, there are many reasons why insurance brokers like selling disability insurance more and more today.

Strategies to Enhance your Reputation in the Insurance Industry

December 16th, 2013

Life insurance agents are among the most untrusted professions. They fall near the bottom of the list, with the likes of door-to-door salespeople and politicians. The results of a “Most Trusted Professions 2013” poll don't show life insurance professionals in a good light. What is it that has insurance agents at the bottom of this list? How are sex workers viewed as more honest and trusting than insurance agents? These are both questions that professionals in the life insurance industry have been pondering since the poll results were released earlier this year.

Rejected for Life Insurance

December 13th, 2013
Rejected for life insurance?
You still have options.

No one expects to be rejected for life insurance coverage, and when it happens, it can come as quite a shock. Insurers can deny coverage for many reasons: high-risk behaviour, financial issues, and, one of the most common reasons, medical concerns. No one company is the same as another, and what might be covered under one company may get you declined by another. But those three factors are generally the areas that cause insurers the most concern.

What Is Critical Illness Insurance?

December 10th, 2013

"People don't need insurance because they are going to die… They need it because they are going to live." – Dr. Marius Barnard

Dr. Christiaan Barnard performed the world’s first adult heart transplant in South Africa in 1967. His lesser-known brother, Dr. Marius Barnard, also a heart surgeon, developed critical illness insurance. He developed this insurance because he saw the need to help people who were suffering financially because of hardship from illness. Advances in modern medicine have allowed people to survive — but in many cases, these people suffer financially.

Top 10 Insurance Jokes

December 6th, 2013

Humour is a very subjective topic. It’s the same as art — what one person finds entertaining might sound dull or even offensive to another. The insurance business in general is not an area that most people would find funny, so we took some extra time to put together something that’s really worth it!

This article is a collection of (in our opinion) the most entertaining jokes, anecdotes, and cartoons we were able to dig up. Making a top 10 was a very intensive job — there might be thousands of jokes out there that we never heard of and that are funnier than any in this article.

So if you know any insurance jokes that you feel should have been in this article or you have any kind of funny stories you'd like to share, feel free to contribute to the discussion below.

Now relax, read, and hopefully laugh. The jokes are on us!

Declined for Disability Insurance? RBC Insurance Has the Answer

December 4th, 2013

RBC Insurance offers disability
coverage to workers who
traditionally don't qualify.

If a long-term disability befalls you and you are unable to work or earn an income, it is truly devastating to your survival.

Disability insurance is designed to protect you from these circumstances and cover your loss of income when you are unable to work, but thousands of people are self-employed or work in industries that are usually categorized as high-risk, and they don't qualify for disability insurance, like construction workers. These people have been out of luck when it comes to disability coverage for decades… until now.

RBC Insurance has released its Fundamental Series disability insurance product, which is designed for those who don't traditionally qualify for disability coverage — giving everyone the income protection they need. The Fundamental Series is different from traditional disability policies because it offers guaranteed acceptance for injury-only coverage as long as you answer a few qualifying statements.
