(Effective January 1, 2012, Standard Life will no longer sell individual life insurance and critical illness policies).

Standard Life offers Term 20 life insurance solutions to insured people age 18 to age 65. The minimum face amount on the policy is $100,000.

Some additional features of the plan include the following:

1. The policy is available on a single-life or a joint-life basis.

2. The premiums are level for the first 20 policy years.

3. The policy is guaranteed renewable until age 85.

4. The policy offers preferred rates for individuals that are in very good health and have an excellent family health history.

5. The policy is convertible to a permanent plan without a medical until age 65.

6. They use age-nearest pricing on their policies, i.e., the insured will be priced at the age that they are closest to.

7. The policy allows for additional benefits to be added without an additional policy fee, such as a Children’s Term Rider, an additional Term Insurance Rider, or a Critical Illness Insurance Rider.

In terms of pricing, a 40-year-old, male non-smoker can have $500,000 of Term 20 coverage with Standard Life. The typical rate is $64.80 a month and the preferred rate is $49.95 a month.
