Critical Illness Insurance Sales Increase for a Fourth Consecutive Year

As reported in the April 2012 issue of The Insurance and Investment Journal, critical illness insurance sales rose for a fourth consecutive year.

Annualized new premium sales rose by 6 per cent to $103.8 million in 2011. The insurance industry sold 7 per cent more policies than they did in 2010 during this period and insurers sold 100,775 individual critical illness policies in Canada last year.

In terms of policy sales in 2011 versus 2010, the renewable term critical illness product lost steam, but limited-pay and permanent critical illness policies had very strong positive results.
