Hi: I have been reviewing my insurance and have been paying $9.95 per month on policy number from AIG ….. …. ….and I can’t find my policy information or contract. I need to know what the policy covers. I would be thankful to hear from you, Laura.

Can you reduce the face amount on a paid-up whole life policy (payments were limited to 20 years) and receive a proportionate amount of the cash surrender value?

Thanks for the note Bradley. This should be possibly but you would have to check the policy or verify this with the insurance carrier. Some policies have minimum issue limits i.e the minimum face amount may be $50,000.

I have had a Manulife Universal Life policy for about 25 years. I can now apply for non-smoking rates on this policy. Will they make me answer other questions about my health (do I now have asthma, cancer, diabetes, etc?)? Could they end up INCREASING my rates as a result of a change in my health?

You would have to check the provisions of your policy. Generally speaking when you change from Smoker to Non Smoker the insurance company also requires a health declaration and you may have to submit a blood or urine sample.

Your classification can not get worse than what you have now.
