is more than just disability insurance.

Desjardins Financial's Solo Disability Income Plan offers multiple coverages built into one program. The solo disability plan replaces the insured’s income or salary when he or she is unable to work due to an accident or illness causing a disability.

The plan provides a monthly benefit for a pre-selected benefit period (based on the insured’s monthly salary) in the event of a total disability due to an illness or an accident.

 For a closer look, the plan coverage can be broken down into four components:

1. The Solo Disability Income Plan provides a monthly benefit of up to $1,200 a month for the first 36 months of total disability, or for the benefit period amount selected — whichever is less.

2. The plan provides a built-in critical illness benefit to the insured on top of their monthly disability benefit for up to five times the benefit amount. They receive the critical illness benefit if the insured is diagnosed with one of Desjardins' covered illnesses.

3. The Solo Disability Income Plan also insures that a minimum amount will be deposited into the insured's RSP if he or she is disabled for more than one year. From the 13th month onward, on top of the monthly benefit, the insured will receive an additional 5% of the monthly benefit amount, which will then be deposited into an RSP or savings account opened with Desjardins' Financial Security.

4. Lastly, the plan has a built-in death benefit equal to five times the monthly disability benefit.
