  8. my late father(d.o.d dec.2007) had a life insurance with the city of toronto where he was a senior placement officer for 30yrs.till retirement, then was called back to sit on board of commissions, i called their human resources and spoke to someone who said he had cancelled said policy/group plan, i asked for this in writing but no response-1 yr now. i do not believe this to be true, my father clearly stated i was the beneficirary to the 1 million dollar policy.his much younger wife who acted as his p.o.a and now says she is executer has acted neglegently and says none of his children in will and refuses to show will. my father James Vincent Calce was of great wealth, stocks, precious metals, race horses, realastate etc. How do i confirm the above info pertaining to any insurance policy dad had.thanking you in advanced for any assitance you can offer.wendy calce

  10. As a financial consultant, this site is useful in helping clients seek a life insurance source on their own. Could you also please list the life insurance companies by type of company, size, and what their percent mix of financial activities are? For example, Manulife and Sun Life are best known for their life products whereas the banks are banks with life on the side. Size matters to some. Their diversity of investing also matters. Thank you for the service.

  11. Hi Bill,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree diversity of holding is an important variable. We will consider your comments as we continue adding more relevant content to the site.

  28. Can anyone please help me choose a life insurance Should I go with the Canadian Banks or the broker insurance.. EX: If I take an insurance for life and I pay the insurance company for 30 years. What happens if the small insurance brokers get bankrupt… Please help

Ajay thought on March 4th, 2011 10:06 am
  29. Thanks for the note. Your insurance policy is contract between you and the Insurance company. If the insurance broker or agency went bankrupt this would not impact your policy.

Keep in mind RBC Insurance and BMO Insurance both use independent products to help distribute their products.

  30. Hi. I have a term 25 policy with Primerica. But Industrial Alliance Pacific’s offer for term 20 is much cheaper with higher face amount. Any thoughts? Which is the better company in terms of performance, stability etc? Thanks in advance!

Divine thought on May 13th, 2011 9:14 pm
  31. Thanks for the note Divine.

Both companies are members of Assuris which cover the greater of $200,000 or 85% of the policy face amount in case of insolvency.

Industrial Alliance Term plans are also convertible to a Permanent plan without a medical.

  34. Hi, So I have been recently approached by my family to get this life insurance by the Knights of Columbus. It’s a catholic organization and they believe that they have one of the best insurances around. I was wondering if this is true or not. I am a 20 year old male, in good health with no medical problems.

Josh thought on July 29th, 2011 3:59 am
  35. Thanks for the note Josh. Knights of Columbus is not on Compulife or Lifeguide – two of the tools we use to compare insurance plans and carriers.

It may be worthwhile to get a comparison quote – premiums can vary widely among carriers – especially on Permanent plans.

  36. Hi, I’m a new soon to be homeowner and I’m shopping around for mortgage life insurance. I’ve already been told getting a mortgage insurance through the bank is more expensive and limits you. So, for this reason I’m looking for mortgage life insurance through a company. Can anyone list the top reputable companies that I should be looking at. I’m a 32 year old female with no health issues (I’m a non-smoker). I did have a PDA (patent ductus arteriosus) as a baby, but it was repaired. No issues!

Natasha thought on December 25th, 2011 12:15 am
  37. Hi Natasha,

Thanks for the note. You would first want to verify the company is a member of Assuris – they guarantee the greater of 85% of the policy face amount or $200,000 in case of insolvency.

The best rate will depend on the insured’s age his/her health, smoking status and type of plan.

We will send you a separate email now. Regards,

  38. I am looking for life insurance to cover my entire family…myself, husband and two young children. Money is always an issue as many people know! What company in Ontario offers the best bang for our buck? Everyone is healthy and no smokers. Thanks for your help! I am 32 and my husband and children are 34, 5 and 2 years old..

Denise thought on February 16th, 2012 12:11 pm
  39. Hi Denise,

Thanks for the note. The best plan and best premium really depends on the amount of coverage and type of plan.

Insurance Companies have different banding levels on their pricing for different products. We will send you a spearate email now.

I think staying with the larger, older life ins. companies is the safest way to go.
