Dear Mr. Lorne,
My apology for the unconventional approach. However, after reading your “10 reasons to become…”, I feel that you might be able to answer some of the questions that I’ve been search high and low for answers.
First, please allow me to give you a brief overview of my motivation for this quest. I came to the U.S from Vietnam about 20 years ago. Although I really enjoyed the hospitality from the American people, I was yearning for the closeness and friendship from the Vietnamese community in Houston, TX; thus, we decided to move to Houston about 15 years ago. As I enjoyed watching our community population grew to about (approaching) a million and counting, I also discovered heart-broken stories from many people in my community due to insurance related events.
Many of the people in the Vietnamese community purchased their auto, life, and other type of insurances from insurance brokers in my community to find out later their policies were worthless due to lack of knowledge of the type of insurances they had purchased. When confronted by these unfortunate people, these brokers just shrugged theirs shoulders and said “because these people didn’t ask the right questions”. I was also a victim of these bad insurances. Someone broke into my home, damaged my car, and stole many valuable items from the house. I later found out that many of the items were not listed in the policy; thus, the insurance company refused to pay for it. To add insult to the injury, I was notified that my premium might be increase due to the claim ?!?!?. By talking to other people in my community, I found out there are many people in the same situation that I am in right now. So, I have had with these bad policies and decided to do something about it.
So, my question is what do I need to do to become an insurance broker? I have been a computer programmer for the last 10+ years, and also a real estates investor for many years. In short, I have a heart of an entrepreneur, and looking for ways to help people in my community to get better services for their *hard-earned* money. Any advice or suggestion from you is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Daniel Nguyen

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for your note. I can not offer advice in the areas of home and auto insurance - I’m not licensed to sell either of these plans and my knowledge is limited.
We are a leading Canadian insurance brokerage specializing in life and health insurance. If you have an entrepreneurial spirit and like helping others the insurance industry could be a great career for you. You would have to check with your local government body for their licensing protocol. We are not licensed to operate in the United States. Sorry I couldn’t be more help! Lorne
